UEFA goal of the season nominees announced

Cristiano Ronaldo and Christian Eriksen head the list of 12 candidates that have been nominated for the UEFA goal of the season award

Ronaldo’s remarkable overhead bicycle kick against his new club Juventus in last season’s Champions League quarter-final clash for Real Madrid is in the voting poll.

While Eriksen’s goal for Denmark against the Republic of Ireland in the qualifying stages of the World Cup has also been included after the Tottenham playmaker perfectly timed his finish following an excellent counter-attacking manoeuvre.

Marseille’s Dimitri Payet has also got himself on the list for his superb finish against RB Leipzig in the Europa League.

But the goals nominated were not restricted to just the highest level with the UEFA including England U-19 international Elliot Embleton’s stunning effort against Turkey in a European Championship group game.

Women’s football was also represented on the list with Lyon’s Lucy Bronze’s brilliant volley against Manchester City in the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals entering the draw, while Olga Carmona’s strike for Spain against Switzerland in the group stages of the UEFA European Women’s U19 Championship was also included.
