Manchester United legend Paul Parker is adamant that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addresses the left side of his defense this transfer window.
Manchester United’s Champions League aspirations are hanging by a thread.
The Red Devils could have been in a position of strength and be all but assured of a place in Europe’s elite competition next season but for some woeful defending.
While United’s defense has been hugely improved by the arrival of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan Bissake last summer there are still issues.
Paul Parker believes and it is hard to disagree with him, that most of the problems are stemming from Maguire and Shaw down the left side.
Maguire has certainly shown on occasion why Solskjaer broke the world transfer record for a defender on the England man.
But he has been questionable at times too, although United legend Parker is adamant its not all Maguire’s fault.
Speaking to Eurosport he feels if Solskjaer brought in a left-footed assistant for Maguire at center-back things would be very different.
On top of that, he feels young Brandon Williams is a better option than Luke Shaw and should be given a chance.
“When you look at Saints’ form, they’re decent, it’s going to be their most difficult game may be left, and it proved to be that way.”
“The first goal United gave away was awful, you can question Paul Pogba in possession but also the weaker part of defense is on the left-hand side of the defense, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were found wanting.”
“At this moment in time, the weak spot in United is the defense.”
“Brandon Williams needs to come in at left-back too. I thought he deserved an opportunity pre lockdown and now he should start playing regularly, it’s important he gets more game time.”
All the talk is of wingers and strikers, will Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bring in a defender too?
