Manchester United thrash AZ Alkmaar with four goals in 11 minutes to top Group L in the Europa League.
After an extremely poor first half, there were concerns.
United’s consistent failure to beat lesser opposition was worrying those in and around Old Trafford.
The second half started in much the same way.
That was until a moment of magic from Andrea Pereira down by the corner of the left-wing.
The young midfielder turned his marker inside out and left him in totally bewildered.
He used a deft rabona style kick to get the ball around him and then run around the inside to beat him.
As the ball eventually reached the far side of the penalty area, it appeared the chance had gone begging.
However, Ashley Young had other ideas, as he riffled the ball into the roof of the net. 53rd minute 1-0 United lead.
The goal appeared to bring the game to life.
Only five minutes later, teenage sensation Mason greenwood got in on the action.
He hit a screamer all of his own form the edge of the box. 58 minutes on the clock 2-0 to the home side.
A fired up United side continued to press, and pin the Dutch side back in their own penalty area.
As such it was only a matter of time before there was a miss-timed challenge.
In the 62nd minute, a penalty was awarded and up stepped Juan Mata to get his first goal of the season. 3-0 to the Red Devils.
United was not done though. Well, Mason Greenwood wasn’t.
In the 64th minute, he got his second, and United’s fourth.
The game was over.
Greenwood could have had a hattrick.
But he couldn’t quite find that clear cut chance.
United goes through the knockout stages as a seeded team and hopes to avoid a tough challenge this early in the competition.
