Manchester United have apparently triggered the one-year extension clause in the contract of midfielder Nemanja Matic.
31-year-old Serbian international Matic joined United back in 2017. He was signed by then-manager Jose Mourinho for almost 45 million Euros from Chelsea.
When the Portuguese was in charge at Old Trafford, Matic was a first-team regular. However, since the arrival of Solskjaer, he has seen his playing time diminish.
That was until the midfield injury crisis for the Red Devils. With both Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay out the Norwegian had no choice but to turn to the Serbian.
Although he struggled at first, he has found some of his best form once again. Forming a solid partnership with Fred in the middle of the park.
Add to that the flamboyance of recent arrival Bruno Fernandes and Matic has become almost undroppable.
It appears though that the club has realized his value to the team and the player has contributed enough to warrant another year.
If Sky Sports are to be believed, maybe more with the club apparently looking at a longer-term deal too.
