Gregg Berhalter believes Christian Pulisic’s commitment is an example for other young American players to follow after completing a €64m transfer to Chelsea
The 20-year-old winger will remain at Borussia Dortmund for the rest of this season on loan after being sold to Chelsea on Wednesday in a record deal for an American player.
Pulisic follows in the footsteps of fellow US stars Roy Wegerle and Matt Miazga in playing for the Blues in the Premier League.
New United States manager Berhalter has now hailed Pulisic’s commitment and stated that he should be an example for the next generation to follow.
“This move is a result of hard work and determination on Christian’s part to pursue his career goals, and is a new level of transfer value for a U.S. international,” Berhalter told U.S. Soccer’s website.
“Overall, his commitment to achieving excellence is an example for other young American players to follow.”
After being handed in US debut by Jurgen Klinsmann in March 2016, Pulisic has managed nine goals and adding six assists in 23 appearances at international level.
