Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has refused to be drawn on reports that Frenkie De Jong has turned a move to the Camp Nou in favor of joining Paris Saint-Germain.
Reports in the Spanish press say the Ajax midfielder has ‘broken an agreement’ to join the Catalan club in order to give the green light for a move to Paris.
There’s also talk that Barcelona are beginning to give up hope of signing the 22-year-old as they believe the French champions will complete a deal this year.
“Whether De Jong ends up at PSG or somewhere else, I do not know the future,” Valverde told reporters, as quoted by Football Espana.
“When we see where he plays, we’ll make a judgment on it, but he is playing for Ajax and we are not talking about players from other teams.”
“Signing a forward? We will try to do that in this window but if we do not then we will continue with the players who are here and give chances to those in the B team.”
“My own future? When me or the club have something to say, we will communicate it, but we must not rush in. I do not understand all this intrigue, I have always said that there is good harmony, I have a contract in force and the deadlines that we have set are there, I have nothing to hide.”
