Ernesto Valverde has insisted that it will be a long time before Lionel Messi hangs up his boots.

Along with Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi is widely considered to be among the two best players in the world right now, and probably ever.

After becoming the only player to win six Ballons d’Or on Monday, Lionel Messi hinted at something which every Barcelona fan dreads to hear. The 32-year old admitted that he was nearing the end of his career as a football player.

But Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has given the fans some hope. Valverde believes that Lionel Messi will not be seen retiring any time soon. The Spaniard also said that he enjoys coaching Messi very much.

“It’s something natural, he’s 32 years old,” the Barcelona head coach was quoted by Goal.

“I don’t think he’s going to retire tomorrow or in three days, but when you get past 30, you see that the end is nearer. The subject is given too much thought.”

“Sometimes it doesn’t let you enjoy every day,” Valverde said of coaching Messi.

“It’s something that you will value over time. In many years’ time, I’ll be able to look back and say that I coached Messi.”
