Frenkie De Jong is settling in with Barcelona’s team after a rough start to the season both for him and for his new team.
De Jong was subbed out of the match against Eibar yesterday with Barcelona up 3-0.
The Dutchman received a standing ovation from Ipurua who knew how to appreciate a world-class midfielder performance.
This should be a big boost for Frenkie who looks like he’s improving from match to match.
Not only that, but he firmly took the spot in the starting eleven, leaving Rakitic on the outskirts.
Valverde took notice and praised his midfielder. Talking in a post-match press conference, according to Football Oranje, the manager commented:
“Frenkie adds a lot to our game. He keeps going and is already a very important player for us. He has enormous potential.
“I think we haven’t seen the best of Frenkie yet. Although he is going through a great season start.”
De Jong was asked about his own performance, too.
“It was enough, we won. It was easier than the previous away games, so it was a good day for us,” said the 22-year-old.
“We were well prepared for Eibar, we know it can be difficult here.
“They normally play with a lot of pressure. But today we played well and often found the space behind the defence.”
Barcelona is now on a five-match winning streak.
It includes big wins against Inter, Villareal, and Sevilla, with two consecutive away wins in the period.
However, even more, important for the Catalans is that they are back on top of La Liga. Their biggest rival, Real Madrid, slipped against Mallorca last night.
