Edwin van der Sar is confident that Ajax can upset the odds by eliminating Juventus in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Van der Sar played for the two famous clubs, he won the Champions League with Ajax back in 1995 and spent two seasons at Juve.
And he feels the 4-1 win at the Bernabeu will give the young Ajax team enough confidence to face the Serie A leaders.
Van der Sar was part of the team that lost to Juve in the 1996 Champions League final.
“It’ll be an exciting match against Juve,” the Dutch club’s CEO told Football Italia.
“We’re happy to be in the quarter-finals. We played at a high level against Real in Madrid and we hope to do that again against Juve in Amsterdam.
“The team are confident. They can beat Juve. We have a young team we’ve added experience to, for example with Tadic and bringing in Blind from Manchester United.
“We’re still in the Champions League and we can beat Juventus, having beaten Real Madrid and played in matches like the one against Bayern, which gave us great confidence.”
The 48-year-old was then asked about ex-Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who is in a race against time to be fit for the first leg in Amsterdam, as well as Bianconeri target Matthijs de Ligt.
“I know Cristiano well, I played with him for four years. I know how quickly his body heals and how strong he is mentally,” he added.
Bartomeu spoke to Van Der Sar(Ajax CEO) yesterday about De Ligt. Ajax gave the green light and will not cause any problems if there is total agreement with the player. The intention is for the deal to be done before the match vs Juventus. [sport]pic.twitter.com/h2cW0g01KU

“He’ll do everything to be there because he wants to win and qualify, just like Ajax do. De Ligt has a great future ahead of him.”
