Former Tottenham and Real Madrid flop Rafael Van der Vaart has taken another huge dig at Harry Maguire’s ability and price tag.
Rafael Van der Vaart appears hell-bent on a collision course with Manchester United and England center-back Harry Maguire.
Van der Vaart draws comparisons to his compatriots Virgil Van Dijk and Nathan Ake, insisting he could find a player to do what Maguire does in the Sunday league.
Speaking to Dutch TV station Ziggo, Van der Vaart thinks the world record transfer fee defender is laughing all the way to the bank.
“I think Maguire goes home every day and tells his wife: ‘I screw up, but I earn so much. They really believe I’m good.’ I really think so, he laughs at everyone.”
“If he is worth so much money, Virgil van Dijk is worth £300m.”
“If I am going to play with the amateurs on Sunday afternoon, I can easily find three who can do what Maguire does on the pitch. I mean that seriously. A bit silly to say, but I really think so.”
There is no doubt that Van Dijk is the pillar of Liverpool, Maguire has made some howlers, and of course, Ake has definitely improved.
However, he has certainly improved United and the statistics tell a very different story to what Van der Vaart is preaching.
