Virgil van Dijk has picked Lionel Messi as the toughest player he has ever faced and Sergio Aguero as the most difficult to mark.

Identified as one of the best in the business right now, Dutch international Virgil van Dijk has been a crucial element for Liverpool’s recent dominance in the Premier League.

The defender was also invaluable when Liverpool overturned the tie against Barcelona and went on to lift the Champions League title last season.

It was then that Van Dijk first came up against Lionel Messi. And he still holds the Barcelona star in high regard.

“There are some difficult strikers out there but probably Leo Messi,” he replied when asked about the toughest opponent he has faced, during a Twitter Q&A session.

However, he named Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero as the player he has faced the most difficulty in marking.

The 28-year old was then asked about his favorite career moments.

“There are a few to mention,” Van Dijk replied. “Making my debut as a professional footballer, making my debut for the national team, and of course Madrid.”
