Louis van Gaal, now former Red Devils manager, has criticised Jose Mourinho for the way he treated Bastian Schweinsteiger at Manchester United.

It was van Gaal that brought Schweinsteiger to Manchester back in 2015. They are old acquaintances – they’ve known each other since their stay at Bayern Munich. However, just a year after the German’s arrival, van Gaal was sacked, Mourinho was hired and Schweinsteiger was written off by his new coach.

Recently Mourinho admitted that he regretted his actions back then, which are the cause of van Gaal’s comments.

“Schweinsteiger was, of course, older but not too old,” the former United boss told SkySports.

“His body was not able to keep up with the high demands of Premier League.”

“Bayern sold him to us as fit player, but, in fact, physically he had reached the end.”

“How Mourinho treated him after me, Schweini did not deserve this. But it explains the situation, how it stood with Schweinsteiger,” van Gaal added.
