Manchester City eventually brushed aside Oxford United in a 1-3 win away at the Kassam Stadium to book their place in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
Manchester City are the defending Carabao Cup champions.
Their march to defend the title went on with ease tonight. But that was after a slight scare from lowly Oxford United.
It may well be Mikel Arteta’s last game as Pep Guardiola’s assistant.
No matter to City as they made easy work of Oxford United in the end.
As the U’s reigned the defending Champions for a little while anyway.
Joao Cancelo got a little fortunate with a deflected effort to get City off the mark in the 22nd minute.
The Oxford equalizer came less than a minute after the half time restart.
The U’s goal was more akin to Manchester City’s style. Matty Taylor went on a weaving run, and adding a nice finish to tie things up at 1 – 1.
However, City’s big guns then stepped up.
Queue Raheem Sterling. within four minutes he regained the lead. Then 20 minutes later wrapped things up with his second.
Final score: Oxford United 1 – 3 Manchester City.
