A hat-trick of assists along with a hero to villain performance from Clement Lenglet helped Barcelona come from behind to beat Real Betis 2-3.

It looked like it was going to be another one of those days for Barcelona. When they went behind to Real Betis in the sixth minute.

It was the fourth minute, and Betis’ Fekir went on a weaving run in the Barca box. This kind of free moving penetration of the Barca defense was cause for concern. Worse still, when Fekir took a shot Clement Lenglet proceeded to block it with his arm.

After a couple of minutes VAR review, the penalty was given. Sergio Canales makes no mistake and the home side had the lead.

Fortunately, Barca wasted no time in getting back into the game. While Lionel Messi didn’t have his shooting boots on today, he did have his passing ones on.

In the 9th minute, the Argentine played a defense carving ball over the top of the Betsi defense. Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong made the perfectly timed run. He took the ball on his chest and half-volleyed the ball home to make it 1-1.

Fekir was at the heart of everything Betis did, and they were exploiting Barca’s weaknesses. Especially a defense that was missing the ever-present stalwart, Gerard Pique.

It was the 26th minute and Fekir was on target again. This time Canales turns provider as he dispossesses Vidal in the mid-field. Fekir runs at the Barca backline and unleashes a fearsome shot past Marc-Ander Ter Stegen.

As the end of the first half was nearing, in the third minute of injury time, Messi carved open the Real backline once more. This time from a free-kick.

Messi puts a difficult ball into the home sides box, which causes absolute mayhem. During the chaotic scenes, the ball falls to Busquets who remains calm and dispatches the ball into the back of the net.

Parity is restored and the sides go in 2-2 at the break.

The second half saw Barca have the better of the chances. They seemed to have squashed the spirit of Betis, coming from behind twice so emphatically.

The 72nd minute saw 6th-minute penalty villain Clement Lenglet redeem himself.

Talisman Messi got his hat-trick of assists, as he whips in a dangerous cross and Lenglet wins the ball in the air to powerfully head the ball into the back of the net.

The game then descended into chaos, as both sides hero’s Fekir and Lenglet were sent off within minutes of each other.

The 76th minute saw Fekir pick up two yellow cards. The first for a foul on Lenglet, and the second for arguing about the first yellow card.

Then Barca hero Lenglet in the 79th minute picks up his second yellow card for pointlessly pulling back Joaquin.

It wasn’t vintage Barcelona, but they had to win after Real Madrid thumped Osasuna earlier.
