Manchester City’s newest whiz kid Phil Foden showed no nerves in his first England U21 training session by performing a nutmeg on a coach
England U21 boss Aidy Boothroyd called up Foden ahead of their games against Andorra and Scotland this week.
The 18-year-old midfielder is being compared to Barcelona great Andres Iniesta and is regarded as one of the most exciting up-and-coming talents in English football.
Although Foden revealed that it’s fellow midfielder and City teammate David Silva who is his biggest inspiration in football alongside Lionel Messi.
“I watch him [Silva] closely, he’s a great player and someone I want to be like in the future,” said Foden on Sky Sports.
“Probably him and Lionel Messi. I’m my own player, but they are great players.
“They have great characters, who show that on the pitch, and impress me every time they play.”
Keen as ever to prove himself though, Foden performed a nasty nutmeg on an unsuspecting England coach.
Afterwards, Foden insisted the coach was “asking for it” on Twitter and even added music from American folk-rock duo, Simon and Garfunkel, as he slowed the footage down to empathise the moment.
