Quique Setien’s Barcelona beat Levante 2-1 thanks to two goals from Ansu Fati in another dominant yet lackluster performance.
Quique Setien’s Barcelona dominated possession and rained down plenty of shots on goal in tonight’s games against Levante. But it was far from convincing performance from the Catalonians.
Today’s game saw Barca create more chances than normal, with some 23 shots and of which nine were on target. But with the exception of two first-half goals from teenage sensation Ansu Fati they had little else to show for it.
Both goals came with a minute of each other, and the latest Barca superstar team up with the greatest Barca superstar both times.
Goal one came in the 30th minute.
Messi played a long diagonal through ball that split playing field in half. Fati ran onto it, shrugged off the challenge of the defender and took a shot from 18 yards out that left the keeper with no hope at all.
Goal two in the 31st minute saw the nights dynamic duo team up again. Messi did all the hard work trying to create half a yard to shoot. The Argentine genius knew the chance to shoot was going to come.
Instead, he plays the ball to Fati who gains half a yard on his marker and lashed the ball past the keeper at the near post.
Levante did not give up on the game. Setien’s team’s inability to kill off the visitors left them with hope.
Unfortunately, the did not get anything until the 92nd minute which meant the goa was nothing more than a consolation.
However, the manner in which it was scored shows that Barcelona also has some defensive frailties to take care of.
It was a win, but not the convincing style that is expected at the Camp Nou.
