Christian Vieri reckons Inter Milan’s transfer targets Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko will have “devastating” consequences for their rivals.
New Inter manager Antonio Conte wants to reinforce his attacking options for his debut campaign. Apparently, the Italian has decided that Manchester United striker Lukaku is the ideal man to lead his frontline.
On Thursday, reports broke out in the Italian media claiming that Conte is closing in on Lukaku. It’s alleged the Belgian has agreed on terms on for a five-year deal, with Inter and United locked in talks over a transfer fee.
It turns out, though, Conte also has his eyes on Dzeko for this summer. The ex-Manchester City forward has thrived at AS Roma in the past three years and would thrive in Conte’s favoured 3-5-2 formation.
And Vieri, who himself bagged an impressive haul of 123 goals in 190 games for Inter, has backed Conte’s pursuit of the duo.
“I did not need to watch Italy vs Bosnia to discover Dzeko,” the former Italian striker told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“He is the most complete striker in Italy: he is very strong physically, he has good technique, heading ability and he kicks very well with both feet.
“He scores and he scores well, with him and Lukaku, Inter would become devastating.”
Meanwhile, Vieri also gave his thoughts on his other old club AC Milan. They started out last season with Gonzalo Higuain before signing Genoa star Krzysztof Piatek in January.
The Poland international finished his first six months at the San Siro with 11 goals in 21 games.
“Here with us, [Higuain] scored a mountain of goals,” added Vieri.
“He was not happy in Milan for many reasons, and in a few months, it was impossible to adapt to English football with Chelsea.
“If I were a sports director I would bet with my eyes closed on Higuain.
“[Piatek] is a fighter, he is hungry and he scores goals. Milan must start with him”.
