Villa backs Pep for title triumph

David Villa has backed Pep Guardiola to oversee another title triumph for Manchester City.

The former Barcelona forward believes his former boss can mastermind another Premier League title for City.

Villa believes this present Manchester City team can defend the title they won last season. No Premier League team has defended the title since Sir Alex Ferguson led United to glory in 2009. The Red Devils finished four points clear of Liverpool that season to win their third consecutive title.

Guardiola led City to the title in style last season and despite United mounting an early title challenge, the Citizens finished with a record 100points and 106 goals in the league.

City only lost two games all season and also picked up the Carabao Cup on the way to their record title win.

Pep Guardiola has improved his team already with the signing of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City and David Villa believes his team will take some stopping.

“I believe he can do it again because he has the right team and he is a good coach. He has the backing of the City group and the fans as well.” Villa said about Pep, according to Goal.

“They’re one of the best teams in the world and I believe they can also challenge for the Champions League.”

City begin their title defence away from home at the Emirates where they’ll face Arsenal on August 12.
