Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has shed some light on the rumored release clause in Jack Grealish’s contract.

There has been the talk of a 45 million pound buyout clause in Jack Grealish’s contract with Aston Villa.

Grealish signed a new and improved contract with Villa back in 2018. The hope was to keep him at the West Midlands club until at least 2023.

The attacking midfielder has been a revelation during Villas return season to the Premier League.

This kind of form has attracted attention from many suitors, with Manchester United apparently leading the way.

The most recent speculation says that United was prepared to activate the apparent 45 million pound release clause. Ed Woodward was even willing to do so as soon as this month. This would ensure that the player joined them this summer.

This would also mean that the player would leave grossly undervalue.

In an interview reported by Birmingham Live, Villa boss Dean Smith has moved quickly to clarify the situation.

“We have not got any clauses in any contracts that allow people to buy players for a certain amount of money.”

Whether this puts United off the player remains to be seen, he is thought to be a priority target for the fallen giants.
