Aston Villa has signed AC Milan goalkeeper Pepe Reina on loan.
Villa made a move for the former Liverpool shot-stopper after first-choice keeper Tom Heaton suffered an ACL injury that has ruled him out until the end of the season.
The deal is a loan until the end of the season.
Reina’s experience is hard to top.
Former Spanish international and World Cup winner Reina has Premier League experience. He spent eight years as Liverpool’s number.
According to the clubs official website, avfc.co.uk this was a key factor in manager Dean Smith’s decision to make a move for the 37-year-old.
“We’ve managed to secure a player in Pepe who has a wealth of Premier League experience.”
“At the start of the summer, we were looking for an experienced goalkeeper and brought in Tom Heaton.”
“Unfortunately, his injury has ruled him out for the rest of the season but Pepe fits our criteria.”
“Not just because of his experience but also because of his leadership qualities.”
The player himself is glad to be back in England and keen to get started.
“I’m ready for this challenge. Let’s go, let’s start, I can’t wait.”
