David Villa has just announced his retirement from playing football and followed that news with his investment in a new USL franchise Queensboro FC.

The Spanish goal-scoring legend is following in the footsteps of David Beckham.

Villa, however, is the lead investor in a football franchise in the second tier of football in America, the USL.

He made the announcement via personal Twitter account, expressing his love for Queens and New York after his time there with New York City in the MLS.

He said:

“Queens always showed love to me and my family while we were in New York.”

“It’s a dream to build a pro-USL Championship club in the world’s Boro.”

If his own club can be even a fraction as successful as he was for other clubs in his career, Queensboro FC could be the next big thing to hit Stateside football.
