Cristiano Ronaldo is facing the heat as the main ‘suspect’ after Juventus bowed out of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo might have been Juventus’ most consistent performer this season but that does not protect him from criticism.

After a 2-1 defeat to Porto in the first leg of their round of 16 Champions League tie, many expected Juve to turn the tie around. The Bianconeri have been formidable at Allianz Arena this season, and CR7 was even fired up for a big night prior to the game.

However, it didn’t go as planned. Ten-man Porto recorded one of the biggest upsets after a 3-2 defeat to Juventus that still saw them advance on away goals in a 4-4 aggregate.

Why is Ronaldo to blame?

The Portuguese forward has been called out for turning his back in a wall on Porto’s deciding free-kick goal. The Portuguese media have similar headlines of accusations all over. Asides from that, it was an uncharacteristic night where he wasn’t at his best.

Sergio Oliveira’s free-kick from long-range found its way past Juve’s wall and snuck past goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Apparently, Ronaldo was guilty of turning his back and lifting his leg, allowing the ball to go through his legs.

Juventus made four mistakes over the two legs against Porto, but fans all over are blaming CR7 as the major culprit that caused Juventus’ exit.

It means Ronaldo and Juventus will continue their wait for continental glory, having now suffered painful exits in the last three seasons.
