Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck spoke of his relieve to avoid another injury on Ostersunds artificial pitch after Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over the Swedish side
The England international, who since joining the club from Manchester United back in 2014, has had a torrid spell of injuries over the past few seasons and so took a more cautious approach during Arsenal’s first leg against Ostersund on their 4G plastic pitch.
“The pitch was a bit hard and we knew coming here that it was going to be a bit difficult,” Welbeck told BT Sport, according to Goal.
“Obviously with it being a 4G pitch and having had so many injuries in the past I made sure I did my rehab really well.
“You hear stories about the dangers of playing on 4G pitches after knee injuries but I did my warm-up and I was alright.”
Fellow forwards Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were unavailable for the match. Lacazette has recently been ruled out with injury, while Aubameyang is cup-tied due to Dortmund’s presence in the tournament.
