Arsene Wenger is wary of a repeat performance that nearly led Arsenal to being eliminated from the Europa League against FK Ostersunds for Thursday night

Previously in the Round of 32, Arsenal had emerged from the first leg against Ostersunds with a comfortable 3-0 win at Sweden and were expected to cruise to the next knockout stage at the Emirates.

But the Gunners fell 2-0 down early on in the return leg and had it not been for a Sead Kolasinac goal after the break, it may have been a completely different story on what has already been an extremely difficult season for Wenger’s side.

“We still have to play the game and win it,” warned Wenger, according to arsenal.com

“You must win the game even if we concede early, yes of course. It all comes down to the performance.

“You have to respond mentally to the situation you face. Sometimes in a game you are 1-0 down but you can still win the game.

“This is one opportunity we have and we have to take it. We did half a job in the first game but Europe gives you a psychological problem you have to master. When you have won away from home, you have to finish the job at home but it is not easy because it always puts the team who is playing against you in the position of having nothing to lose.

“You have to face the fact that the best way to approach the game is to try to win it.”

Arsenal won the first leg at the San Siro against AC Milan 2-0 and will be looking to maintain their advantage and progress to the quarter-finals of this season’s Europa League.
