Rumor has it, Timo Werner to Chelsea is a done deal, Jamie Redknapp insists he must now show Liverpool what a mistake they made missing out on him.
Up until about 72 hours ago, Liverpool were the favorites to sign the German striker from RB Leipzig.
It appeared at the last minute the Merseysiders balked at the price and hesitated.
Frank Lampard and Chelsea back by the billions of Russian owner Roman Abramovich stepped in and have apparently convinced the forward that Stamford Bridge should be his next home.
Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp thinks the move is actually better for the player in terms of the likelihood of getting more playing time at Chelsea.
He insists the best thing Werner can do is show Jurgen Klopp exactly what he missed out on.
Speaking to football.london, he said:
“It’s a great signing.”
“He will probably look at that Chelsea front line and think that he can be a regular in that team.”
“At Liverpool, who is he going to replace?”
“He’s a really good player, but we don’t know right now, is he better than Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah?”
“It’s one of the best front three attackers in the world right now so he doesn’t want to go somewhere and be a number two or a sub.”
“Will they regret it? You don’t know but that is what he has got to do.”
“He has got to make Liverpool regret that decision, or at least make them think: I wish we had signed him!”
If we have to scratch Werner from Klopp’s summer wish list, then who will come to Anfield this summer?
