West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere says Marko Arnautovic is “one of the best strikers” in England and has urged the club to keep him.
Arnautovic started West Ham’s 1-0 home win against Arsenal on Saturday and waved goodbye when he was substituted for Andy Caroll in the 71st minute, fuelling speculations he’s played his last match for the club.
Amid reports linking him with a move away from the club, Arnautovic’s agent said on Thursday that he wants to go to China.
But West Ham released a statement insisting that he was not for sale, and Wilshere shares the same sentiment.
“In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve seen what type of character he is,” Wilshere told Sky Sports.
“He’s a great character, a great person to have around. He just wants to play; he was struggling with a knee injury and hard training but he always said he wanted to play.
“We need him. For me, he’s one of the best strikers in the Premier League. I’ve played with a few good strikers and he’s up there – with what he brings to the team he’s so important to us.”
