Issa Diop may be allowed to leave London Stadium if Manchester United agree to a player plus cash deal.
After arriving at West Ham last summer from Toulouse, Issa Diop needed only one season to convince the big teams in England.
The former Tolouse man was always considered a top defender in France but he arrived in England as a rather unknown quantity. Since then, the perception has changed. One of the most unsung players from last season, Issa Diop has seen his profile take a flight due to Manchester United’s interest in him.
And though West Ham want to keep the Frenchman, the Red Devils might have other plans. According to Sky Sports, a meeting could take place between the two clubs and the said player’s agent this week.
Anxious to strengthen a dithering defense after last season’s howlers, the Red Devils are eager to bring in a solid defender who can pair up with Victor Lindelof in a consistent manner.
Manchester United are set to depart for the United States to kickoff their preseason camp but would ideally want Issa Diop on the plane.
However, the operation is not going to be that easy. Reports in Foot Mercato claim that West Ham United may be willing to let the player leave under one condition. The Hammers want Anthony Martial as part of the deal.
This could either snap the deal into extinction or force United into paying over the odds.
The Mancunians are eager to sign Issa Diop but don’t want that to happen at the expense of a player they still hope to come good.
And in case United don’t agree to a player plus cash deal, they will have to pay at least €70 million to West Ham.
With the clock ticking and the likes of de Ligt and Maguire already seeking other options, United may be forced to pay over the odds and sign a talented young defender this summer.
