Solskjaer has found the right system
Manchester United had been having a hard time defending in recent months. A lot of it is down to the frail defensive structure he has inherited. Eric Bailly was injured for most part of the current campaign, Victor Lindelof is always a stupid mistake away from letting his teammates down and Axel Tuanzebe is too young to be given a huge responsibility.
However, a three-man defense really did the trick for the Red Devils. Harry Maguire was partnered with Bailly and Luke Shaw with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams playing as advanced full-backs.
And how can we forget about the composure shown by Bailly throughout the game. The Ivorian’s defending was spot on and that piece of skill in the first half was crazy.
After showing initial signs of folding in, the defensive partnership got into the action and defended resolutely even though two goals were conceded which were eventually ruled out by VAR.
