Cristiano Ronaldo will not be present to see the 2019 Ballon d’Or being handed out to its winner.
The red carpet for the Ballon d’Or ceremony has already started. Although the ceremony is yet to begin, it’s only a matter of hours before the winner is announced.
Lionel Messi, along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk, are the strongest contenders for taking home the 2019 Ballon d’Or.
Despite being nominated for the record 11th time, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to snub the award gala in Paris. As reported by Express, the Juventus number-7 will be attending the Italian equivalent of the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Gran Gala del Calcio
Cristiano Ronaldo recently won the Italian Football Association’s Footballer of the Year for 2019. As a result, the Portuguese will miss his trip to Paris to collect his first individual award in Italy.
Luka Modric, who won the award last year, will present the award to the winner. The Croatian broke the duopoly between the Juventus ace and his arch-rival Leo Messi.
Modric was disappointed on Ronaldo snubbing the ceremony. The midfielder claimed that it wasn’t fair for the football community.
“I cannot say why someone did not attend – that’s their choice, that is logical, is it not?” Modric said.
“It turns out these choices and trophies only have value when they get them.
“It is not fair to their playing colleagues, or to the voters who have nominated them for the past 10 years – nor for football or supporters.”
