Wijdnaldum: We are determined to get the trophy

Liverpool are working hard to crown their efforts with silverware, according to Georginio Wijnaldum, but reckons Tottenham Hotspur will be difficult in Madrid.

The Reds will meet the Londoners in the Spanish capital on June 1 in what will be the second all English finals since 2008.

Klopp’s men agonisingly missed out on the Premier League title having secured 97 points and just one defeat.

However, the opportunity to wrap up the campaign with the Champions League is one Liverpool are eager to capitalise upon.

The midfielder told Liverpoolfc.com in Marbella: “Everyone is really focused and determined to win a trophy, especially because we’ve had a really good year.

Georginio Wijnaldum praises Liverpool’s evolution

Georginio Wijnaldum hailed the progress Liverpool have made in the past 12 months and highlighted a key area that proves it.

“It was a great year with 97 points in the league, but unfortunately, we didn’t end as champions, so that’s why we want to finish this season with a trophy.

“In the last game of the season, we couldn’t control things [in the league] because it wasn’t in our hands. Now, it’s different, it’s a final, so we’re going to try to make the best of it and try to win the game, but we know Tottenham are a really tough opponent.”

Liverpool recorded a Premier League double over Tottenham with a pair of 2-1 victories home and away which could count as a psychological advantage come kick-off at Estadio Metropolitano.
