William Saliba is willing to stay with Les Verts for another season as Arsenal continue taking their time.
William Saliba is definitely one of the rising stars of French football. Aged just 18, the youngster has shown that he can cut it at the top. Arsenal are keen on signing the teenage defender who is going to cost the club at least 30 million Euros.
Moreover, Saint-Etienne are also keen on seeing their young star return to the club on loan for the next season. And Arsenal are not really looking to entertain such a stipulation. As things stand, Unai Emery needs to have new defenders join the team. The club’s defensive woes are well-publicized and the club cannot buy a defender only to loan him back.
Even though that’s not the most practical of decisions, the Gunners have reportedly shown a willingness to comply rather than say no and allow a long-term target join another team in the future.
Saint-Etienne aren’t compelled to sell William Saliba as well. While speaking to The Standard, the club’s head coach, Ghislain Printant insists that there is no urgency in selling their starlet.
“The sale of Saliba is not an absolute necessity,” Printant told reporters.
“There is no urgency [to do so]. He is courted by clubs.
“From a sporting point of view we want to keep him next season and that’s his wish too. He still has room for development [here].
“We will see. Our goal is for him to be with us again this season.”
The Gunners are also keen on signing Kieran Tierney who is seen as a long-term replacement for the ageing Nacho Monreal. But signing William Saliba should be the team’s priority as the youngster could be a long-term replacement for Laurent Koscielny.
