Xavi Hernandez has refused to rule out taking over Barcelona but insisted that he is focused on his current job.
Barcelona are in desperate need for someone to take the reins from Ernesto Valverde. As a result, the club has lined up a number of options for the managerial role with Xavi Hernandez being the hottest option.
Talks emerged that Barcelona, during their trip to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Supercup semifinal, were in discussion with Xavi eyeing a possible takeover.
Recently, Xavi confirmed the speculation after AL Sadd’s cup tie against Al Rayyan while refusing to leak too many details regarding the discussion with the Barca representatives.
Speaking to the press, the 39-year old insisted that he indeed was interested to take charge at the Camp Nou but was focused on his current job.
“Coaching Barça is my dream, I cannot hide that,” Xavi said as Evening Standard reports.
“Everyone knows. But my focus is on Al Sadd, I do not say anything [else]. I want to have respect for Valverde.
“I cannot say anything. I’m focused on Al Sadd,” Xavi emphasized.
“They were here to talk to me, also to check on Ousmane Dembele. That’s it. I cannot say. Sorry. I cannot inform you too much. Just that I met with Abidal, my friend … I am focused on my team, Al Sadd.”
