Barcelona will stick with Quique Setien for now but Xavi Hernandez is bound to coach the team someday, says Josep Maria Bartomeu.

FC Barcelona appointed Quique Setien to take charge of the team after relieving Ernesto Valverde of his duties back in January.

Barca continued to be a dominant force domestically under Valverde, and the major reason for his dismissal was the inability to reach desired targets in the Champions League.

Under Setien, however, the situation has even worsened. While the Catalans are still alive in the Champions League, they are on the verge of losing this season’s La Liga title to Real Madrid.

Combine that with the fact the team performances have significantly degraded, and Setien’s future at the club beyond this season appears to be hanging in the balance.

Meanwhile, stories of Xavi Hernandez making a return to Camp Nou as a manager has been gaining much traction.

“Xavi will be Barca’s coach, sooner or later. But right now we are not looking for a coach, we are with Quique,” Josep Maria Bartomeu told TV3.

“Quique Setien will coach the team in the Champions League and these last two Liga games that are left.

“Our will is to fulfill contracts, and Setien has one. We went to Setien’s house to speak about the future, the plans for next season. He will probably be there and I am very interested to hear what he thinks.”
