Zenit St Petersburg beat visitors Benfica 3-1 to go top of their UEFA Champions League Group G.
Zenit St Petersburg opened their scoring in the 21st minute.
Dzyuba fired them ahead with a clinical finish from 12 yards out, with the ball supplied by Magomed Ozdoev.
Benfica defenders squandered possession when they tried to build-up play from their own half with casual yet slick one-touch passing. They were unable to recover and conceded from Dzyuba.
The game was a slow and cumbersome affair. Which saw Zenit dominate and grind down their Portuguese opponent.
Halftime: Zenit St Petersburg 1 – 0 Benfica
The second half was a livelier affair. With Zenit trying ot secure the points, and Benfica attempting to get back into the game.
Zenit registered five shots on goal, within five minutes of the restart.
Benfica was a little slower out of the blocks, but both Grimaldo and Pires threatened the Russian’s goal.
However, for all their efforts, they were undone, by an effort from Vyacheslav Karavaev, which was inadvertently diverted into his own goal by Benfica’s Ruben Dias.
After a VAR check into the build-up of the goal, it was confirmed.
70th minute, Zenit St Petersburg 2 – 0 Benfica.
Zenit assumed control of the game from this point on and dominated.
Only eight minutes later, Iranian front man Serdar Azmoun secured the win and all three points. A fast break and a fine finish from inside the box.
Zenit St Petersburg 3 – 0 Benfica.
As the clocked ticked towards fulltime. Benfica pilled forward in an attempt to salvage some pride if nothing else from the game.
They were rewarded with a consolation goal from Raul de Tomas in the 85th minute.
Final score: Zenti St Petersburg 3 – 1 Benfica.
