Lionel Messi should continue playing for Barcelona as the world’s best players belong in La Liga, suggests Zinedine Zidane.
FC Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi’s future at the club has looked uncertain in recent times.
Reports recently surfaced claiming Messi is planning of quitting Barcelona at the end of this season. The same reports suggested that he is discontent with the club’s management. As a result, to show his frustration, he has put talks for a contract extension on hold. His current contract runs through to the summer of 2021.
Asked to give his opinion on the rumors, as Goal reports, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane said he wants the six-time Ballon winner to stay in La Liga.
“I don’t know what will happen,” Zidane said after his side’s 1-0 win against Getafe. “But we hope not, because he is in this league and we want the best in this league.”
Messi was also involved in a disagreement with the club’s hierarchy previously this season. Sporting director Eric Abidal pinned the blame for Ernesto Valverde’s dismissal on the players to which the Argentine, who did not take it lightly, reacted publicly.
