Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane paid tribute to their opponents Real Betis, after their 5-3 victory on Sunday’s La Liga match
Real headed into the game on the back of their 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Round of 16 Champions League tie and having recently enjoyed a turn around in form since the end of January. However, Betis were also on a good run and gave Zidane’s side a very difficult game which ended with Real having to concede three goals come the end of the match.
Afterwards Zidane paid tribute to Betis and admitted, while not wanting to discuss the three goals that they conceded, he had indeed enjoyed the match itself.
“It was a real end-to-end affair, a bit of a frantic game, but I enjoyed it. That scoreline shows that our opponents, who are on great form, played very well and dominated proceedings for some spells. I’m not going to focus on the three goals we’ve conceded, but rather the five we’ve scored”. said Zidane, according to the club website.
The Frenchman also acknowledged Marco Asensio’s performance during the game, which cultivated with the 22 year-old scoring two goals for Real.
“I recognise what a good performance it was from Asensio, his two goals and his overall contribution, but, as always, it’s a team effort. We got off to a very good start, then I don’t know quite what happened. We dropped deeper and the whole complexion of the game changed. After the break, we did the total opposite: we produce a stunning second-half performance and I’m happy with how all of them performed out there. You’ve got to recognise the job that Marco did and the same goes for Lucas Vázquez, who performed very well on the other flank” said Zidane.
Real next face Leganes on Wednesday in another La Liga match. Previously when the sides last met, it was Leganes who knocked Real out of the Copa del Rey and ultimately cost Zidane’s side of any chance of domestic silverware this season.
