Zinedine Zidane suggests the presence of Thibaut Courtois is the primary reason for the defensive strength of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid recorded their fifth consecutive clean sheet as they beat Deportivo Alaves 3-0 at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Friday.
A huge credit for their defensive robustness in the match goes to Thibaut Courtois, who made four important saves.
Courtois is also in the driving seat to win this season’s Zamora trophy, having recorded 18 clean sheets and let in just 18 goals and in 32 matches.
The Belgium international endured a turbulent start to the season but has managed to establish himself as one of his side’s most fundamental players. And his importance hasn’t been overlooked by Zinedine Zidane.
Zidane said, via Marca: “He’s a very important player and a great influence.
“Not conceding goals is impossible. but it’s true that we’re conceding very few. It’s a team effort, but Thibaut is stopping a lot of goals and we’re doing very well.
“We have to keep doing what we’re doing and we have a very fit Courtois. The team don’t concede a lot.”
