Zinedine Zidane insisted that James Rodriguez was left out of the Real Madrid squad that faced Athletic Bilbao by his on choice.

Speculation surrounding the future of James Rodriguez at Real Madrid is only heightening the more he is omitted from the Los Blancos matchday squads.

So when he was not featured in the sides one-nil win over Athletic Bilbao, the press wanted to know what was going on.

There is plenty of talk of fallouts between the player and the manager but there was no such thing on Zinedine Zidane’s agenda when he addressed the player’s absence.

The Frenchman insisted that the Colombian striker was omitted from today’s game by his own decision.

In an interview reported by Goal, Zidane is adamant that the player chose not to be included, but was not elaborating any further.

He said:

“He wanted to be left out because of his own reasons.”

“The reasons are between us and I’m not going to tell you any more.”

James cost Real Madrid an astonishing 75 million Euros but could be sold on the cheap this summer to help fund a major rebuild.
