The Frenchman scored a second-half hat-trick to give Real Madrid a 3-0 victory over Athletic Club today at the Spanish La Liga tournament.

Real Madrid trashed Athletic Club 3-0 today in Sunday’s Spanish La Liga fixture.

And it was all thanks to Los Blancos French footballer Karim Benzema, who scored a hat-trick in the second half to give the team a victory.

“[Benzema] has confidence in himself, he knows that things can always be done better, and he’s always looking to improve,” said manager Zinedine Zidane to Marca after the match.

“But his team were helping him, with Marco [Asensio]’s cross, [Jesus] Vallejo’s tackle, who was phenomenal.”

“I’m not surprised by what Benzema has done [by scoring a hat-trick],” he continued.

“The feelings [from the match] are very good. We played a very good game, even in the first half.”

He added: “I’m happy with the attitude as the best thing of all is that we played a very good game today.”

“Second balls, set-pieces, aerial challenges; we were very focused today,” Zidane admitted.

“Then with our quality, we showed some good things.

Then the French boss talked about Welshman Gareth Bale: “The pity is that he had a chance to score, and I am sorry for him.”

“I would have liked to see Gareth score. As always, I will not get involved [in talking about his future].”

“No, I don’t understand [why Bale was whistled and Isco was applauded],” he concluded.
