Zinedine Zidane is happy with his sides 0-1 win over Sevilla in what he deemed their “best performance” since his return.
It was not a flamboyant or fantastic performance by any means. Real Madrid ground out a hard-fought 0-1 win over Sevilla.
The only goal of the game scored by old favorite Karim Benzema.
But Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane didn’t care, it was a win, it was three points and his team worked hard.
After the match in an interview reported by Marca, Zidane shared his thoughts.
“Firstly, I’m happy.”
“We put in a great display for 90 minutes at a tough ground.”
“I have to congratulate all my players. It’s a collective win and I’m happy for everyone.”
“It’s the game that has satisfied me the most since I returned.”
Zidane felt it was a real team effort.
“Everyone on the pitch helped out. We had difficult moments, but there was a noticeable solidarity in these moments.”
“You have to play well for the full 90 minutes at a place like this.”
Zidane was thrilled for his fellow Frenchman Benzema who came up good yet again, bagging his fifth goal of the season already.
“He’s given us the win again, but all the players [were important].”
While the usual Los Blancos swagger was not there, his team to a man stepped up to full fil defensive duties too.
“We defended well and we read the game very well tactically.”
“The likes of Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale, and James Rodriguez all put a lot of effort into their defensive duties.”
“We know that we can create chances, but everyone’s defensive work has been the key to winning.”
“Those three, in particular, did a lot of defending. In a difficult match like today, everyone has to do it.”
While the win puts them in second place in La Liga and has relieved the pressure on Zidane for the time being at least.
It remains to be seen how long the powers that be and more importantly the fans will put up with performances like that regardless of the results.
