LA Galaxy may be outside the playoff places, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic is confident the squad can still win the MLS title
Dominic Kinnear’s side are seventh in the Western Conference table and three points behind sixth-placed Seattle Sounders with four matches left.
Galaxy have had their struggles this season, which recently included a seven-game winless run, but Ibrahimovic is certain that they are a genuine threat for the MLS title.
“We have that team that can make it in the playoffs,” Ibrahimovic told the club website.
“There’s not a team out there that wants to play us when we play the game we know how to play and we can play. I see us as a threat for everybody.”
Galaxy captain and former Premier League winner Ashley Cole feels that their 3-0 win over Sounders on Monday could provide the squad with a timely boost.
“If you would have asked me before the Seattle game, do we deserve to go to the playoffs, I would have said no,” Cole said.
“But after that performance, I would have to say yes, because I think the way the team is playing, it’s totally different to the other games.
“I think it’s probably the best game we’ve played in terms of possession, forward movement, defending as a team. … If this team played like we did on Sunday for the last 20 games, we wouldn’t be in the situation we’re in now.”
Ibrahimovic agreed and added: “If we have a game like that I don’t believe many teams want to play against us. I think they go out there and they wish only that we don’t make it to the playoffs.”
Galaxy will next take on eighth-place side Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday, who sit just one point behind them with a game in hand.
