Liverpool’s legend has returned to the club, with Liverpool’s academy, but Jurgen Klopp sees him at the first team in the near future.

The current Liverpool manager would love for Gerrard to be his successor at the helm of the first team. “I already told him, that when I will leave or will be dismissed, I would like for him to take my positon”, the German manager, who has a contract until 2022 on Anfield, said.

Steven Gerrard will start his work with the Under 18 team of the club in the summer. Klopp welcomed Liverpool’s legend back to the club: “It’s perfect that we can involve Steven more in the club’s life. I will make sure that he will receive all the information that he needs. The club needs legends like Gerrard in key positions.”

The former England international spent 17 years on Anfield, until his departure in 2015. Gerrard is the only player in the cormorants’ history that scored in all the finals of English Cup, English League Cup, Champions League and Uefa Cup.

Gerrard is also the holder of the record of most goals scored for Liverpool in the European cups, with 41. The 36-year-old is third in the all-time ranking of players with most appearances for Liverpool and fifth in the goalscorers top.

Steven Gerrard played 710 matches for Liverpool and scored 186 goals during this period.
